History:
We have had groups in Harlow for over 50 years all around the town and have had many hundreds of children pass through the years. We have always been closely linked with Waltham Abbey Woodcraft folk.
For more about our national history visit http://heritage.woodcraft.org.uk/archive/
Activities:
We meet on a Tuesday night in term time and we play many different games. We try to play games that don't have a winning team, we play games that involve cooperation. We go on trips all through the year, we regularly go on swimming trips to what was Harlow pool (now go to Broxbourne pool), and we also go on walks in Epping Forest. Our Christmas trips, which we offer at a reduced price because the money we get from recycling aluminium cans, have been to many places, in recent years we have been to the science museum, Cadburys chocolate factory and many more.
When, Where, How:
Woodchips (0-5 year olds) usually come along with parents, woodchips are mixed in with the Elfins. Elfins (6-9 year olds) meet at 7-8 pm. Pioneers (10-12 year olds) meet at 8-9 pm. We allow ventures (13-15 year olds) to the pioneer group if they have worked their way through the group, when they are 16 (D.F’s) they can help to run a group if they want (this has happened a lot through the years). Every week the children have to pay £1, this is for hall rent and the drinks and biscuits we provide them.
The leaders
All of our leaders have a standard C.R.B check. We have at least a male and female leader at each group night
Want to volunteer?
We are always looking for new leaders, feel free to come along to watch a group night. The woodcraft folk offer full training to become a leader, and we will help you settle in and we will pay your C.R.B check and some other expenses. Don’t hesitate to contact us with any quires
Reviews:
‘‘I’ve been in the Woodcraft folk for 3 years. And I really enjoyed every moment of it and I’ve learned thing I didn’t know before like how to put up tents and arts and craft etc..." Jake Sheppard.
